Ex- FBI director James the ex-FBI chief has entered an innocent plea to providing misleading information to congressional representatives and impeding a legislative process.

The defense lawyer stated he would seek to have the legal matter thrown out for multiple reasons including that his the accused, a detractor of President Donald Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was formally accused just days after Trump pressured his attorney general to move forward against him.

Court Developments

During the hearing on mid-week, the defense counsel Patrick Fitzgerald informed the judge they aimed to file various legal requests to terminate the proceedings before a court case, claiming the prosecution was vindictive and that a federal prosecutor was improperly appointed to assume control of the legal matter.

Mr Comey's proceedings was first handled by a Virginia prosecutor, who resigned under scrutiny from Trump after his probe into another opponent - New York Attorney General Letitia James - failed to file indictments.

Legal Setting

Mr Comey seemed in good spirits as he walked into the legal venue on Wednesday, conversing with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Failor and daughter his daughter, a federal prosecutor who the previous administration dismissed.

Following the reading to the judge state his legal protections and the dual charges against him in court on Wednesday, James Comey was asked if he comprehended the allegations.

"Yes your honour. Thank you," he told the proceedings.

Previous Events

James Comey was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2013-2017 and was dismissed about several months into the former president's first term as national leader. At the moment, he was overseeing an investigation into international campaign influence and whether there were any links between Russia and Trump's campaign.

While in office, the director sparked a counter-response from Democrats when he stated just shortly prior to the national vote that he was investigating Democratic candidate Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against the candidate were not pursued, leading to disapproval from the Republican party as well.

Current Allegations

The federal government claim the former director gave untrue statements to Congress during a congressional hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They claim he provided false information to the legislative body by saying he had not approved someone at the FBI to disclose to media organizations details about the government examinations.

Legal representatives also accuse James Comey of "improperly attempting to sway, obstruct and impede" the committee by making false statements to it.

Personal Comments

"Our household have been aware for a long time that there are ramifications to opposing the former president," he commented. "We choose not to live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he stated further. "So let's have a trial."

The charges against the former director surfaced after Donald Trump posted on digital channels demanding his top legal official, Ms Bondi, charge Mr Comey and other people.
